Get To Know Your Neighborhood By Bike Tour A Huge Success!
This past weekend, 25 residents participated in making the 9th District "Know Your Neighborhood By Bike Tour" a successful event. The tour took riders on a 6 mile route that showcased and highlighted upcoming projects and developments. Riders stopped at key locations where residents were given detailed information by City Staff who also answered questions from residents.
9th District Spring Cleaning Challenge
Councilmember Steven Neal, invites families and residents to participate in the "9th District Spring Cleaning" event throughout the month of April. This community effort is aimed to clean up and beautify the neighborhoods within the district before the summer months arrive.
Residents are encouraged to report all nuisances, including:
graffiti
potholes
sidewalk repairs
street sign replacement
illegally dumped items
Ramona Senior Apartments Moves Forward
March was a great month for the 9th District. The groundbreaking of the anticipated Ramona Park Senior Apartments marked the first of many positive initiatives of 2013. This new development will replace the vacant former Farmer's and Merchant's bank located at 3290 E. Artesia Boulevard
The 60-unit senior apartment community will feature a pool, leisure space, 89 parking spaces and many amenities for residents to enjoy. Residents in the area can expect an 18-month construction period.

$61,500 Grant From U.S. Soccer Foundation Goes to DeForest Park
The Ninth District has been awarded a $61,500 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation to convert two tennis courts to two futsal courts at DeForest Park, 6255 De Forest Ave. Futsal is a fast-growing, fast-paced variant of soccer.
The word futsal is derived from Portuguese and is loosely translated as "hall football" or "indoor football." The sport traces its roots back over 80 years, and is growing in popularity worldwide.
Futsal can be played on both indoor and outdoor courts instead of a field. It is played on a hard surface, with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular soccer ball.
